Teenaged Wasteland

Tue Jul 14, 2009, 3:25 PM
Can it really be described as such? I'm not too sure. Thanks, Pete Townshend.

Well, I've finally decided what I really want to do with the rest of my life. Actually, it's not a surprise. I've known since I was in middle school, but was discouraged by my ma due to the fact that I "wouldn't make any money". I'm fully aware of that. And frankly, I really don't care. It's something that's always been on the back burner for me; something that I would like to do after I've set myself into a comfortable position in matters of economic stability. However, thinking about it, in attempting to get myself into such a position, wouldn't I "settle comfortably into the rabbit's fur"? (Kudos to anyone who recognizes that quote.)

Why put it aside? Why not tackle such a career as soon as possible?

To say my career of choice aloud (which I have been doing since last Saturday whilst in a conversation with my cousin) anyone who knows me shouldn't be surprised. It seems sort of far fetched; especially since its prime and golden age died back in the late sixties. I suppose it sort of revived back in the eighties, but it was nothing like the sixties. I know I'm going to have to do other jobs as well. It can't be an all out full time job. But it is what I want.

I want to be a music journalist. Go ahead, Axl Rose. Shove my head into a toilet.

But thinking about it, it's the only thing I'm cut out for. I love to write. And I love music. Sometimes I wonder which I'm more passionate about. I care for my musical collection (which ranges from everything including The Andrews Sisters, Judas Priest, INXS, and The Doors) just as much as I care for how I phrase my sentences. Although perhaps not as much. I'll waste paper like air. Environmentalists hate me. But I do recycle. :3

Oh, wow. My Who CD just exploded. That's odd. It's never done that before....

Damn it. I hope cassette tapes come back into style. Especially since my car has a cassette deck. *loves my Karloff*

Anyway. Writing. It's all I really do. It's all I've ever done... which is really pathetic when I think about it. "What do you do in your spare time?" "Aw, gee, I sit at my desk and write drivel until my hand cramps up. Then I turn to my keyboard until my hunched position gives me a stomach churning headache." The pains we go through for our passions. I've actually felt quite lonely lately.

I think what really turned this daydream into a reality for me is when I got the opportunity to speak with Danforth Prince. Perhaps not the biggest name out there, but he is quite a successful man. He owns his own publishing company and had wonderful advice to give me. Of course, he gave me the crash course in what it's like to be a writer, which include strict deadlines, reprints, must have creative forces, and all that lovely jazz he decided would either "scare me away or make me change my mind and become a housewife". Neither of which I will do. Housewife? Please. I'd set my own house on fire for entertainment. And that is not far from the truth.

What really turned me back onto it and had me seriously contemplating this occupation again was Saturday (ironically the only thing I really remember about that party) when I was talking to my cousin about college. I mention that it was my ideal dream job and he told me to pursue it. Especially if it's what I love. Not much. Anyone could have told me it. But. I don't know. Thanks, my favorite Abercrombie and Fitch model cousin. (No, I'm not kidding.)

So hopefully, I'll go visit Mr. Prince soon and take up that job offer. It would certainly be an experience to work with someone in the publishing business even if I'm answering his phone calls. That or I'll just call him every week until he decides not to answer his phone anymore. Haa. His Lester Bangs for my Cameron Crowe. *God, no* Oh, but I really hope I don't overdose on this. Take the writing away from me and all you have is a music loving loser who isn't good for much except for a laugh or two.

On another note, I really want a dog. I went into a pet shop today while I waited for my dad and saw the most adorable, lonely looking little brown lab. I just wanted to take him home and love him forever. I've always said that if I ever got a dog, I'd want a St. Bernard. I love big dogs. And I love cats also. Lovely, fluffy little furballs that they are. My grandmother was a cat person. Literally. I would go to her house in Brooklyn (Brooklyn girls say "HI") and the stairs leading up to her house were filled with cats waiting for dinner. It was a bit creepy.

Speaking of my grandmother, who did pass away almost wow, ten years ago, at my graduation party, my auntie gave me one of her old necklaces. Marilyn Monroe says diamonds are a girl's best friend? Ah, but once you've seen and held Mikimoto pearls in your greasy middle class hands, no other piece of jewelry could look so simple yet so classy at the same time.

So, I was tagged in something! Go figure
1) Post these rules
2) post 8 things about yourself in this journal
3) at the end you must tag 8 people and post their icons in the same journal
4) leave a message on the people you tagged
5) NO TAG BACKS!!!

"Does anybody remember laughter?"

I've decided that I am much more of a writer than I ever was of an artist. But then again, perhaps the two are interchangeable?
